CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program built on constantly varied functional movement executed at high intensity. CrossFit is not a specialized program rather a deliberate attempt to optimize physical competence in each of ten recognized fitness domains. They are Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy. CrossFit programming was developed to enhance an individual’s competency at all physical tasks, basically our specialty is not specializing.
IS IT FOR ME??
Of course!!! Your needs and that of an Olympian differ by degree not kind. The same methods that elicit optimal responses for an Olympian will elicit optimal responses in you! We're not going to load you with the same weights we would for an Olympian but you both certainly need to Squat, Deadlift, and Press. These movements are examples of what is needed to maintain functional independence and improve fitness, unfortunately these movements are more often only taught to advanced athletes.
At CrossFit Salisbury we aim to change that with proper coaching and incremental load assignment. We are able to teach anyone who can care for themselves to perform safely and with maximum efficacy the same movements that have been typically utilized by professional coaches in exclusive environments.
It has long been our contention, our observation, that people’s needs differ by degree, not kind.
Olympic athletes and our grandparents both need to fulfill their potentials for cardio-respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, speed, power, coordination, accuracy, balance, and agility. One is looking for functional dominance; the other is looking for functional competence. Competence and dominance manifest and optimize through identical physiological mechanisms. We scale our program by altering rest, load, intensity, etc. while utilizing the same exercises for everyone whenever possible.
